The UPSC Indian Forest Service (IFS) Examination is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) to recruit officers for the Indian Forest Service. The IFS officers are responsible for managing and protecting India's forest resources, wildlife, and environment. This service is one of the three All India Services, along with the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and Indian Police Service (IPS).

Eligibility:
Nationality: Must be a citizen of India.
Age Limit: Candidates must be between 21 and 32 years of age. Age relaxation is provided for reserved categories as per government norms.
Educational Qualification: A candidate must hold a bachelor's degree with at least one of the following subjects: Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, and Zoology, or a bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Forestry, or Engineering.

Preliminary Examination (Prelims)

The Preliminary Examination for IFS is the same as the Civil Services Preliminary Examination.
Objective Type: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)
Papers: Two compulsory papers
General Studies Paper I: Covers current events, history, geography, polity, economic and social development, environmental ecology, biodiversity, and general science.
General Studies Paper II (CSAT): Comprehension, interpersonal skills, logical reasoning, analytical ability, decision-making, problem-solving, basic numeracy, and data interpretation.
Marks: Each paper is 200 marks
Duration: 2 hours for each paper
Note: CSAT is a qualifying paper with minimum qualifying marks fixed at 33%.
Descriptive Type: Essay writing, descriptive questions

Papers III, IV, V, and VI: Optional Subjects (two subjects, each having two papers)
